WhatsApp Cannot Be Used on Windows Phone from Today

TEKNOKU.me – Starting today, Tuesday (12/31/2019), Whatsapp can no longer run on smartphones with Windows Phone / Mobile operating systems.

The owners of cellphones with Microsoft’s OS are reported to have been unable to send or receive WhatsApp messages.

Previously, WhatsApp indeed had time to remind that support for the Windows Phone OS has been revoked and its application in the operating system could stop functioning at any time.

Thus, all Nokia Lumia phones with Windows Phone operating system can no longer run WhatsApp. Including the latest models such as the Lumia 650 which is still being marketed until 2017.

“This is a difficult decision for us, but it is the right step to provide a better way for users to stay in touch,” Whatsapp wrote in a statement compiled from the Telegraph.

WhatsApp withdrew its support for Windows Phone partly because Microsoft itself as the owner of the operating system had stopped its development since a few years ago.

Support for the latest version, Windows 10 Mobile, was discontinued in early December 2019. Microsoft recommends that users switch to Android or iOS.

However, in terms of WhatsApp support, Android and iOS are not entirely safe. Older versions of the two most popular mobile operating systems will overtake the fate of Windows Phone on February 1, 2020.

After that date, WhatsApp will only support Android version 4.0.3 or newer, iOS version 9 or newer, and KaiOS 2.5 .1 or newer.
